What are waist beads?

Waist beads are a traditional handmade African accessory composed of glass seed beads with/without crystals on a cotton or nylon string worn or wire around the waist or hips.

Ancient times as early as the 15th century, In Ghana, Nigeria and other West African Countries, waist beads are a symbol of adornment, feminine energy, fertility, sensuality, protection, status, celebration and spiritual well-being.

 In some parts of Africa, waist beads are anointed in oils. Waist beads still remain a intricate part of African culture. Today, in the Western world, waist beads have become so popular that they're used for aesthetic and practical purposes. They can be worn to gauge your weight and body shaping. Rather than using a scale to weigh yourself, waist beads can help you become aware of any weight changes in your abdomen. Wearing multiple waist beads over time can help with body shaping and accentuate your natural curves.

When it comes to waist beads possessing special powers, Christian beliefs do not align with the school of thought of using traditional or fetish means to lure men or heal sicknesses.
Christians believe in only one God who is seen as a supreme being who they depend on for their healing or personal desires. As far back in the old testament in the bible which Christians use as a guide, One of the ten commandments states that Christians shall have no other gods before God(a supreme being which Christians serve) Also in the new testament, Jesus Christ who is the son of God is the only one that Christians are supposed to depend on for their problems or desires. Every other means should not be tolerated.

The use of waist beads as charms can clearly not be used by a Christian.

Waist beads are worn for different reasons depending on the situation or one's personal or spiritual beliefs.  It all boils down to the motive of the Christian. As a Christian, If your incentives are to gain the spiritual benefits from wearing waist beads or lure men, you should reevaluate your decision because Christian values and beliefs do not align with that. However, as a Christian, if your reasons for wearing waist beads are just for beauty or to track weight gain or loss provided it is not related to anything fetish or spiritual, then yes, you can wear waist beads.
